Title that Works

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

You have many decisions to make when you write. You have to choose a topic, real or imaginary. You need to decide whether to write a narration or description or explanation. You need to choose a method of paragraph development and a point of view from which to write, you will be making most of these decisions.

For some of your writing, you also need to write a title that expresses your idea. Most short pieces of writing, such as paragraphs, do not usually have a title. However, longer pieces of writing, such as compositions and reports, need a title.

A title will probably be the last thing you write. However, the title is the first thing your reader will notice. That is why a good title should attract your reader’s interest and attention. A good title should also suggest the main idea or even the mood of your writing. A good title may be simple and clear, it may also sometimes be surprising.
